Catching Fire: Defying the Capitol
An act of defiance is when a person goes against authority. In the book Catching Fire, Katniss, Peeta, Cinna, and the tributes of the 75th Hunger Games all do things to deny President Snow before they go into the Arena.
In Katniss's  private session she took the torso of a dummy, tied a rope into a knot and put it around the dummy's neck. Then she painted Seneca Crane's name on its chest. This was an act of rebellion because she showed the gamemaker that she killed the previous gamemaker because he let her and Peeta win the Hunger Games.
In Peeta's private session he painted a picture of Rue's dead body when Katniss covered her in flowers. Peeta also told everyone during his live interview that Katniss was pregnant. This is an act of defiance because he is blaming Snow for Rue's death and making people in the Capitol go against President Snow.
In the tributes' interviews they said that President Snow didn't have that much power because if he did. he would end the games altogether. They also held hands at the end of all their interviews. These would be acts of rebellion because they are trying to turn people against President Snow and showing that they're not enemies, but friends.
During Katniss's interview it was revealed that Cinna turned Katniss's wedding dress into a mockingjay. I think this is an act of defiance because he took the dress that President Snow told Katniss to wear, burned it and turned it into the symbol that Katniss wears in the Games. Although the symbol means love within the people of the Capitol, it means rebellion in the Districts and nothing but defiance of his power to President Snow. I think that this is the most defiant because it caused President Snow to have peacekeepers kill Cinna while Katniss witnessed behind a wall of sealed glass, screaming in terror.
