Term 1 ReflectionSM

In term 1 we have learned about the stages of plot, wrote a paper on Catching Fire, and learned some new vocabulary words. We have also been learning about story elements. An example of a story element is is conflict. A conflict is a struggle between two forces.
In a story, you can have internal conflicts and external conflicts. An internal conflict is a problem within a character, whereas an external conflict is a problem with the outside world. Looking back over what we've read so far, a conflict I remember was when Hattie was arguing with her uncle Adam in A Corner Of The Universe. This is an example of an external conflict. It was resolved when the police came and took him to the hospital.
In Language Arts class, my greatest academic achievement this term is getting all A's in my classes. I am proud of myself because I'm usually a B student because I don't turn my work in on time. The part I struggle with the most is group work, because I don't like working with people. The plan to improve my learning in this area is to get to know more people.
If I were to ask Miss Lewis what kind of student I am, she would probably say I'm quiet, loud on occasion, and I get my work done. I agree with her because I tend to be loud when I'm around my friends.

  1. Safiyyah, you have done a great job of getting all of your assignments done completely and on time. I've watched you work in partners and you are always respectful and helpful. There will be times when you would prefer to work alone, but often students can learn a lot from one another too.
