At first, Gale is excited to run away with Katniss because they are trying to avoid getting killed by the government. However, he soon realizes if they stay it is an opportunity for him and her to rise against the capital and fight for their rights. The mood at first is happy because Katniss knows that they will be safe if they run away together. When Gale changes his mind, the mood gets tense. Katniss says: "You were happy enough to go before. I dont see how an uprising in District Eight does anything but make it more important that we leave." Gale disagrees with her and leaves.
