At the banquet they expect you to eat then throw up over and over again.Katniss and Peeta thought that it was stupid because they're wasting food and people are starving in District 12. They feel like Katniss and Peeta are stupid and not up to date. The emotional effect it has on it is that it makes us kind of confused and disgusted because they do it for fun.
